More than just a “Traditional Holiday Destination”
In addition to the wonderful scenery and beaches, the West Cork tourist hub of Clonakilty has more to offer those of an adventurous spirit. The Clonakilty Park Adventure Centre is located on the grounds of the Quality Hotel & Leisure Club and offers a host of exciting activities:
- A controlled 20m freefall leap from a tower, plunging towards the ground, but ending with a safe, smooth landing thanks to a powerfan
- A 100m zip wire
- A 20m high climbing tower with two challenging walls
- An Aerial Trekking High Ropes Course 15m above ground which has 2 levels (Level 1 – 65m course consisting of 13 challenging elements such as balancing on cables, leaping on swinging logs and cargo nets while you are 5m off the ground; Level 2 – 15m off the ground with extra challenges.)
On the Water
Surfing: Two beaches near Ballynoe House have reputations as good surfing location. There is a surf school at Inchydoney, and Red Strand is a safe location for beginners.
Sea Kayaking: Day & night experiences are on offer at Atlantic Sea Kayaking, including Starlight / Moonlight Trips (one of the most popular kayaking experiences), Full Day Coastal Kayaking Adventure and a Half Day Kayak Marine Safari.
Something Different
In an upgrade to paintball, a less painful option is now available using laser technology. Laser combat is on offer in a woodland area just outside Clonakilty.
For groups of 2 to 6, Escape Clonakilty in Rossa Street, offers this new challenging game. Teams are locked up in a mysterious room, and given 60 minutes to get out. To escape, the team must solve many puzzles, riddles, brain teasers and identify clues. Using powers of observation and problem solving the team will have to work together to escape.
