Wedding Venue of the Year 2017
At Ballynoe House, we were delighted that Felicity’s childhood friend, Carol Barratt and her family (“the Dunmores”), owners of the nearby Dunmore House Hotel, won the Irish Wedding Venue of Year 2017 award. West Cork is very popular for weddings.
Statistics Tell a Story
According the Irish Office of Statistics there were 20,680 weddings in Ireland in 2013 and 22,045 in 2014. Many of these were held in the Clonakilty area and all year round. Clonakilty has the highest pro rate number of weddings in Ireland. Local hotels host up to 100 weddings per year, which is a considerable share of the total Irish market (more than 2%). Accommodation is in short supply, and with increased prosperity the market continues to expand in 2017 & future years. 46% of weddings occur in the June-September period, while 14% are in August, leaving 40% throughout the remainder of the year.
Our Wedding Survey
As part of a market survey in 2016, Ballynoe House conducted our own survey of local hotels that host weddings. Responses confirmed each hosted up to 100 weddings events per year, with 20%-35% of these in the off-peak season October-March. There are frequent requests for information from the family arranging the event about external accommodation for wedding guests.
There is always a shortage of short-stay accommodation in the Clonakilty area, so we invite wedding guests to consider taking some additional time out to experience what the area has to offer. Dunmore House Hotel is just 5 minutes drive along the coast from Ballynoe House. We are also fortunate to be neighbours with award-winning wedding photographer Dermot Sullivan.
